While visiting a farm in Jamaica, West Indies the idea occurred to us that a mechanical device for de-husking dry coconuts would be of great benefit to the local farmers. Using our technological and mechanical expertise, we first designed and built a hand-opereated mechanical model called THE HUSKER'S FRIEND, a machine which safely and successfully removes the husk of a coconut with one swift mechanical movement and could be operated quite easily by any adult. This machine could save time and energy thereby reducing overhead costs. Our tests indicate that the mechanical model could increase production by approximately three times that of the current manual method of de-husking used by the local farmers there. We improvised the mechanical model with an hydraulic model, called THE HYDRAULIC HUSKER which increases the output even more, and would benefit any person or business concerned with speed, greater production and lower overhead costs. Integral to both models is the HUSKING HEAD, the invention for which weare requesting a patent.

Lors d'une visite sur une ferme jamaïcaine, dans les Antilles, l'idée nous est venue qu'une machine de décorticage des noix de coco serait d'une grande utilité pour les producteurs locaux. Forts de notre compétence en technologie et en mécanique, nous avons d'abord conçu et construit une machine à commande manuelle, appelée THE HUSKER'S FRIEND, capable d'enlever complètement le coir de la noix de coco en un mouvement rapide et en toute sécurité, et d'un emploi facile, à la portée de n'importe quel adulte. Cette machine permet d'économiser du temps et de l'énergie et, par conséquent, de réduire les coûts d'exploitation. Nos essais montrent que ce modèle de machine permet presque de tripler la production par comparaison avec la méthode manuelle que les producteurs emploient présentement. Après ce premier modèle mécanique, nous avons mis au point une machine hydraulique, appelée THE HYDRAULIC HUSKER, qui permet d'augmenter la production davantage et saurait intéresser tout producteur ou toute entreprise se souciant d'accélérer l'opération de décorticage, d'augmenter sa production et de réduire ses coûts d'exploitation. Les deux machines sont équipées de la même tête de décorticage, appelée HUSKING HEAD, qui fait l'objet de la présente demande de brevet.
