A hybrid generator set comprises an engine/generator or another controllable electrical source (10) which provides a variable voltage electrical output, this output is rectified and fed to a DC to DC converter (12), the output (VDC) of which is monitored by a control circuit (16). This output serves as an intermediate DC output, which typically is used to power an inverter (14) to generate an AC output which supplies an external load. The use of the DC to DC converter isolates the intermediate DC output from the generator output, and allows the generator set to operate efficiently over a wide engine/generator speed range, according to load demand.

Un ensemble générateur hybride comporte un moteur/générateur, ou une autre source de courant (10) que l'on peut réguler, qui fournit une sortie électrique de tension variable. Cette tension est redressée et sert à alimenter un convertisseur continu-continu (12) dont la sortie est contrôlée par un circuit de commande (16). Cette sortie est utilisée comme une sortie en courant continu intermédiaire qui, généralement, sert à alimenter un onduleur (14) en vue de générer une sortie en courant alternatif qui alimente une charge extérieure. L'utilisation du convertisseur continu-continu isole la sortie en courant continu intermédiaire de la sortie du générateur et permet à l'ensemble générateur de fonctionner de manière efficace au cours d'une grande variation de vitesses du moteur/générateur et en fonction de la demande de charge.
