A hybrid inflator (10) for inflating vehicle air bags includes a first pressure vessel (1) containing a compressed gaseous fuel, an igniter assembly (5) and a second pressure vessel (31) containing a compressed inflator gas. In use, the compressed fuel gas is released into the compressed inflator gas vessel (1) using the igniter assembly (5) for ignition of the gaseous fuel. Ignition of the gaseous fuel in the second pressure vessel (31) causes a pressure and temperature rise which ruptures a burst disk (37) in the second pressure vessel (31) for gas release and inflation of an air bag.
Un appareil (10) hybride servant à gonfler des coussins pneumatiques de sécurité pour véhicule comprend un premier récipient (1) à pression contenant un combustible gazeux comprimé, un ensemble d'allumage (5) et un deuxième récipient (31) à pression contenant un combustible gazeux comprimé. Pendant l'utilisation, le combustible gazeux comprimé se libère à l'intérieur du récipient (1) de gonflage au gaz comprimé pour y être allumé au moyen de l'ensemble d'allumage (5). L'allumage du combustible gazeux dans le deuxième récipient (31) à pression provoque une hausse de la pression et de la température qui fait éclater un disque (37) de rupture dans ledit deuxième récipient (31) à pression entraînant la libération d'un gaz et le gonflage d'un coussin pneumatique de sécurité.
