The invention provides a header (10) for receiving a mating plug (40). The header is mountable to a sealed housing (50). A bottom wall (22) of the header features a flange receiving opening (25) for allowing a portion of the bottom wall to pass into a flange (51) of the sealed housing (50). A plurality of contact receiving passageways (24, 26) passing through the bottom wall (22) are positioned between portions of the flange receiving opening (25). At least one external contact receiving passageway (26) passes through the bottom wall (22) in the position which is adjacent to and outside of at least a portion of the flange receiving opening (25). This header (10) allows electrical signals to be carried through the bottom wall (22) both into the sealed housing (50) and also to other locations outside of the sealed housing.
