A hybrid solar energy collector including an elongate transparent vacuum tube having an interior cavity under vacuum and an exterior surface. A thermal energy collector is disposed within the interior cavity of the vacuum tube. A photovoltaic energy collector is positioned on the exterior surface of the vacuum tube. The photovoltaic energy collector is insulated from heat generated by the thermal energy collector by the vacuum in the vacuum tube.
