A method and apparatus for configuring a server/client network architecture. A server network device impresses an optical signal onto an optical link at a specified wavelength, where distinct wavelengths are associated with one or more of a plurality of client devices. Thus, the server addresses a specified client device, thereby polling the specified device for a response. An optical demultiplexer/combiner directs the server optical signal to the specified recipient client device on the basis of the wavelength of the server optical signal, and combines all responses on the client devices for transmission back to the server. Any transmission by the specified client device in response to polling by the server is thus received by the server.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de configurer une architecture de réseau serveur/client. Un dispositif de réseau de serveur imprime un signal optique sur une liaison optique à une longueur d'onde spécifiée, des longueurs d'onde distinctes étant associées à au moins un dispositif client parmi plusieurs dispositifs clients. Par conséquent, le serveur adresse un dispositif client spécifié, invitant ainsi le dispositif spécifié à émettre une réponse. Un démultiplexeur/multiplexeur optique dirige le signal optique de serveur vers le dispositif client récepteur spécifié en fonction de la longueur d'onde du signal optique de serveur, et combine toutes les réponses sur les dispositifs clients pour les transmettre en retour vers le serveur. Ainsi, toute transmission du dispositif client spécifié en réponse à l'interrogation du serveur est reçue par le serveur.
