ABSTRACT Hydraulic control apparatus serves to operate roof support props of a mineral mining installation. An automatic setting arrangement ensures the props are set against the roof with a high and uniform force by connecting the prop pressure chambers to a pressure fluid feed line once a threshold pressure is exceeded. Once the desired setting pressure is reached the setting arrangement then isolates the pressure chambers from the pressure line and the props are protected from excess pressure by pressure-relief valves. The setting pressure is approximately the same as the response pressure of the relief valves and the latter valves are designed to pass a maximal throughflow quantity of pressure fluid which is approximately the same as that passing through control valve devices operated manually to cause the props to extend or retract.
