The principle of the invention is to improve: A) the strength of the frame structure; B) the smooth positioning operation of the forks; and C) the handling ability of the fork positioner. The fork positioner is attached to the lift truck by a set of hooks bolted onto the back of two mounting plates. The frame of the fork positioner is made by combining two I beams identical in cross section bolted to the front of the mounting plates. A center key bolt at the back of the top I beam is used to position the fork positioner to the center of the lift truck carriage. A spacer is bolted onto the back of the lower I beam is used to ensure that the lower I beam is fully supported by the lower carriage bar of the lift truck. Both left-hand and right-hand forks are formed by welding two sets of hooks and a lug to the back of the shank of each fork. Each hook on the fork is installed with a bronze bearing. The bearings fit the profile of these I beams and provide smooth travel of the forks along the I-beams. The operations of these forks are controlled by two hydraulic cylinders. The base of the cylinders are anchored to the frame and the rods are anchored to the lug of the forks. The hydraulic pressurized fluid is supplied equally to the cylinders from the lift truck through the flow divider valve of the fork positioner. When the pressurized fluid is supplied at the base of the cylinders, the cylinder rod extends and the forks open. When the pressurized fluid is supplied at the retainer side of the cylinders the cylinder rods retract and the forks close.
