An hydraulic motor has a multi-vane rotor rotating in a rotor chamber in a stator. Tangential inlets deliver liquid to the rotor chambers between the vanes. Fluid is drawn through the rotor chambers through valve orifices in the ends of the respective chambers. In use, the motor will run at very high speed under no load. When a load is applied, the motor speed decreases and the power delivered by the motor will increase.
