ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hydraulic-type rail brake adapted for attach- ment to the base of a rail of a railroad track includes a tubular housing, a telescopically arranged guiding tube movable in the housing and being provided at its free end with a damping head of an elastomer. The head is coupled to the piston rod of a hydraulic shock absorber the cylin- drical part of which has a smaller diameter than that of the guiding tube. The end face of the hydraulic cylinder of the shock absorber bears on the bottom of the housing tube by means of a universal sliding joint, such as a spherical sec- tion sliding in a corresponding spherical recess.
