ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable device for starting an oilfield pump motor or the like includes a simple frame defined by a vertical plate and a horizontal plate; a handle attached to the top of the vertical plate; a hydraulic starting motor attached to the vertical plate beneath the handle, the drive shaft of the motor extending through the plate; a control valve mounted on the horizontal plate; and adjustable legs connected to the vertical plate, so that the starting motor can readily be positioned in front of the pump motor and the starting motor attached to the crankshaft of the pump motor by a standard coupler.
