ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tank for oil or other hydraulic fluid is kept under a few pounds of air pressure during operation to aid the flow of oil to the pump so as to avoid a suction at the pump that would draw in air. The pressure is provided dependably and quickly by a small air pump driven whenever the hydraulic pump is driven, as by the same drive means. A bleed-off discharge causes prompt dissipation of the pressure upon shutdown so as not to cause oil leakage while the associated hydraulic pump is idle. The pressurization is limited so as not to cause hydraulic leakage during operation of the pumps. The hydraulic level is at least as low as the level of the hydraulic pump shaft so that during shutdown there will be no leakage at the shaft by gravity.
