HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED AND RELEASED ISOLATION PACKER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a packer responsive to a first hydraulic pressure for setting the packer within a casing, and responsive to a second higher pressure for releasing the packer from the casing. The first pressure moves an inner piston which shears a screw to thereby apply a compressive force to elastomeric bands. The elastomeric bands bow outwardly and seal the packer to the casing. A toothed ratchet ring engages with respective teeth of the inner piston and an outer cylinder piston to permit one-way movement of the inner piston. The packer is thereby set and the hydraulic pressure can be reduced. The packer is released from its sealing engagement with the casing by applying a second greater hydraulic pressure which shears a screw, thereby allowing the outer cylindrical piston to move downwardly. The inner piston also moves downwardly, thereby removing the compressive force applied to the elastomeric bands and thus releasing the packer from the casing.
