ABSTRACT Process of converting alcohols, particularly ethanol, to other desirable products such as gasoline-boiling range hydrocarbons by contacting such with a dual functional zeolite catalyst in the presence of a sufficient level of water externally added to the reaction system in the range from 10 to 70 weight percent of the total reactant feed. Products of such a conversion vary with the externally added water level, with conversion favoring an optimum gasoline-boiling range of hydrocarbons at an equal molar ratio to the reactant feed, and an increased amount of gaseous product from water levels substantially higher than said equal molar ratio thereof. The so-called dual functional catalyst is such which induces simultaneous dehydration and recombination reactions of simple alcohol so as to result in the production of a spectrum of hydrocarbon moieties of the C1 to C10 family.
