IMPROVED HYDROCARBON REFORMING PROCESS WITH HYDROCARBON HAVING EXCESSIVELY HIGH SULFUR CONCEN- TRATIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hydrocarbon reforming process minimizing the detrimental effects of inadvertently contacting a platinum group metal, halogen-containing catalyst with feedstocks containing undesirably high concentrations of sulfur and water. The present process involves adding a sufficient amount of halogen component to the reaction zone to maintain or increase the catalyst halogen concentration during high sulfur, high water-containing feedstock-catalyst contacting. After the sulfur contamination has been removed from the catalyst, normal hydrocarbon reforming is resumed. Maintaining or increasing the catalyst halogen concentration provides for substantially reduced permanent loss in catalytic activity caused by such high sulfur, high water-containing feedstock- containing contacting.
