ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved slurry hydroconversion process is provided in which an oil dispersible metal compound (catalyst precursor) in a relatively high amount is mixed with a heavy oil to form a high metal-containing catalyst precursor concentrate which is heated in the presence of hydrogen and/or hydrogen sulfide to form the solid corresponding metal-containing catalyst. A portion of the concentrate containing the solid catal- yst is introduced into a hydrocarbonaceous chargestock. The resulting mixture is subjected to hydroconversion conditions to produce a hydroconverted oil product.
