Abstract of the Disclosure The invention disclosed is for a process of preparing a catalyst specific for hydrocracking hydrocarbons boiling in the gas oil range and contaminated with N containing and S containing compounds, which comprises directly ex- changing highly crystalline alkali metal type Y zeolite with a solution containing dysprosium ions at a pH of 3.0 to 3.5, followed by washing, drying and calcining the dys- prosium exchanged zeolite, and thereafter compositing the calcined Dy exchanged zeolite with an effective amount of the hydrogenation metal or compound thereof. Catalysts pre- pared by this process typically exhibit improved activity, good thermal stability and high specificity in converting such f??d stocks to lower boiling hydrocarbo?s, such ?? gasoline cuts.
