ABSTRACT The invention relates to a hydrodynamic bearing comprising a starting aid in the form of a device for generating a hydrostatic pressure in the bearing gap, this device being designed to be switched on and off in dependence upon the hydrodynamic pressure prevailing in the bearing gap. A bearing such as this is distinguished by its simple construction and by rapid switch-on and switch-off of the starting aid.
