ABSTRACT Hydrodynamic reversing gearing is disclosed, of the kind comprising a hydrodynamic torque converter for each rotary drive direction which, in the counter-braking range as well, if required, can be alternatively engaged and disengaged by filling and draining, and which both appertain to a low speed range, and also comprising a coupling device which can be engaged for traction in an upper speed range. The invention provides such gearing which allows the most economical hydrodynamic braking operation possible in the preferred travel direction with the aid of a torque converter intended for reverse travel. The invention is characterised by a brake control device which is designed in such a way that, simultaneously with the engagement of the torque converter intended for the reverse drive direction, it initiates engagement of the coupling device. In a preferred arrangement the rotary speed ratio between the coupling halves in the coupling device can be set at different values.
