A B S T R A C T The present invention relates to a hydraulic bearing construction for carrying thrust loads and provides a hydraulic bearing construction in which for instance, a pivot bearing having a small contact area is combined with two thrust bearings which have widely different load carrying charac- teristics (axial stiffness or rigidity) so that wear of bearing surfaces caused by starting and stopping will not adversely affect the positional accuracy of an equipment, the equipment can be started at low torque and position errors are minimized.
