A space frame for a motor vehicle having a pair of laterally spaced, longtitudinally extending side rail structures (12), a pair of forward-most upright structures (16) each being connected to a respective side rail structure, thereby forming a pair of A pillars, a pair of roof rail structures (18) , a forward end of each roof rail structure (18) being connected to an upper end of an associated A pillar, and a rearward ring assembly (20) connected at upper portions thereof with the roof rail structures (18) and at bottom portions thereof with the side rail structures (12). The rearward ring assembly (20) having (a) a tubular hydroformed inverted U-shaped upper member (22) having a cross portion, (b) and a pair of leg portions extending downwardly from opposite ends of the cross portion, (b) a pair of tubular hydroformed side members, and (c) a cross structure rigidly connected in ring- forming relation between the second ends of the side members.

L'invention concerne un châssis tubulaire non carrossé de véhicule automobile, muni de deux longerons latéralement espacés et s'étendant de manière longitudinale, de deux structures verticales avant, rattachées à un longeron latéral correspondant, de manière à former deux montants avant. Le châssis tubulaire est également composé de deux longerons de toit dont les extrêmités avant sont rattachées à une extrêmité supérieure d'un montant avant correspondant, et d'un ensemble anneau arrière dont les parties supérieures sont rattachées aux longerons de toit et dont les parties inférieures sont rattachées aux longerons latéraux.
