Slippery, hydrophilic coating compositions of a polyurethane/urea prepolymer adduct intermediate commingled with at least one dissimilar hydrogel polymer precursor, and materials composed of a polymeric plastic or rubber substrate or a metallic substrate with a slippery hydrogel coating of a polyurethane/urea prepolymer adduct intermediate and at least one dissimilar hydrogel thereon, such that the coating composition tenaciously adheres to the substrate, are disclosed. The coating compositions and coated materials are non-toxic and biocompatible, and are ideally suited for use on medical devices, particularly, catheters, catheter balloons and stems. The coating compositions, coated materials and coated devices demonstrate low coefficients of friction in contact with body fluids, especially blood, as well as a high degree of wear permanence over prolonged use of the device. The hydrogel coatings are capable of being dried to facilitate storage of the devices to which they have been applied, and can be instantly reactivated for later use by exposure to water.
L'invention concerne des compositions de revêtement hydrophiles et glissantes à base d'un prépolymère additif intermédiaire de polyuréthane-urée mélangé à au moins un polymère précurseur d'hydrogel différent, ainsi que des matériaux composés d'un substrat en caoutchouc ou en plastique polymère ou d'un substrat métallique pourvu d'un revêtement d'hydrogel glissant à base d'un prépolymère additif intermédiaire de polyuréthane-urée et au moins d'un hydrogel différent, de sorte que la composition de revêtement adhère fortement au substrat. Ces compositions de revêtement et ces matériaux revêtus sont non toxiques et biocompatibles, ce qui rend leur mise en application idéale pour des instruments médicaux, en particulier des cathéters, des ballonnets de cathéter et des extenseurs. Ces compositions de revêtement, ces matériaux et ces instruments revêtus par lesdites compositions présentent des coefficients de friction peu élevés lorsqu'ils sont en contact avec des liquides corporels, en particulier du sang, ainsi qu'un degré élevé de constance de la résistance à l'usure en utilisation prolongée. Ces revêtements peuvent être déshydratés, de manière à faciliter le rangement des instruments auxquels ils ont été appliqués, et réactivés instantanément par mise en contact avec de l'eau.
