Cells or organisms are separated by using a hydrogel which enables selective migration of cells depending on difference in concentration between physiologically active substances. Thus, a hydrogel whereby cells or organisms having various chemotactic activities can be separated (fractionated, classified, separately obtained, etc.), which cannot be established by the existing techniques, is provided.
