A hydrogen generating system is provided for use in internal combustion engines for increasing the efficiency of the engine and decreasing emissions from the engine. The hydrogen generating system has an electrolysis cell for generating hydrogen and oxygen gases by electrolysis of an aqueous solution, a power source for providing electrical power to the electrolysis cell, an outlet flow means for introducing the generated gases into the intake manifold system of an internal combustion engine, a monitoring means for monitoring the operating conditions of the hydrogen generating system, and a control means connected to the monitoring means for controlling the operation of the hydrogen generating system in response to the monitoring means. The invention is also directed to a controller for controlling a hydrogen generating system for use in an internal combustion engine for increasing the efficiency of the engine and decreasing emissions from the engine. The controller has at least one interface means for receiving information on the operating conditions of the hydrogen generating system, at least one control means for controlling a parameter of the hydrogen generating system, and a logic circuit connected to the interface means and control means for providing instructions to the control means in response to the information received from the interface means.
La présente invention vise un système de production d'hydrogène pour moteur à combustion interne conçu pour accroître l'efficacité du moteur et réduire les émanations d'échappement. Le système de production d'hydrogène est muni d'une cellule d'électrolyse générant de l'hydrogène et de l'oxygène gazeux par électrolyse d'une solution aqueuse au moyen d'une source d'énergie assurant l'alimentation électrique de la cellule d'électrolyse, d'un dispositif d'évacuation permettant l'entrée des gaz générés dans le collecteur d'admission d'un moteur à combustion interne, d'un dispositif de surveillance pour suivre les conditions de fonctionnement du système de production d'hydrogène, et d'un élément de contrôle connecté au dispositif de surveillance pour diriger le fonctionnement du système de production d'hydrogène en réponse aux données recueillies par le dispositif de surveillance. L'invention vise également un contrôleur capable de commander un système de production d'hydrogène monté dans un moteur à combustion interne en vue d'augmenter l'efficacité du moteur et de réduire ses émanations. L'élément de contrôle est doté d'au moins une interface recevant des informations relatives aux conditions de fonctionnement du système de production d'hydrogène, d'au moins un élément de contrôle pour commander les paramètres du système de production d'hydrogène et d'un circuit logique connecté à l'interface et à l'élément de contrôle pour fournir des instructions à l'élément de contrôle en fonction des informations reçues de l'interface.
