24 NT 04409 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for determining the concentration of hydro- gen ions in a liquid medium hydrogen ion sensor, a reference electrode external to and spaced from the ion sensor, and voltage measuring means electrically connected between a terminal of the ion sensor and the reference electrode, the ion sensor and the reference electrode each being in contact with the liquid medium, the reference electrode comprising an electronic conductor in electrical contact with the liquid medium through an electrically interconnecting medium, the interconnecting medium in turn being in contact with the liquid medium, the ion sensor comprising a gas impervious membrane sheath, an electrochemical system and the sensor terminal, the terminal being external to the membrane sheath, and the electrochemical system electrically interconnecting the inner surface of the membrane sheath and the terminal to establish a steady electro-potential between the inner surface and the terminal that varies primarily with temperature, the sheath being constructed of an oxygen ion conducting ceramic.
