A hydrogen-permeable metal membrane (30) with increased hydrogen flux compared to conventional metal membranes is formed by at least one etching step in which a controlled volume of etchant is used to selectively remove material from surfaces (32, 34) of membrane (30). Without sacrificing membrane selectivity, membrane (30) enables a greater throughput of purified hydrogen. Holes (60) or other defects in membrane (30) can be repaired by the addition of a sealing metal.

L'invention concerne une membrane métallique perméable à l'hydrogène (30) avec un flux d'hydrogène supérieur à celui des membranes métalliques classiques. Cette membrane est formée par au moins une étape d'attaque chimique dans laquelle un volume contrôlé d'agent d'attaque chimique est utilisé pour retirer de manière sélective la matière des surfaces (32, 34) de la membrane (30). Sans perdre sa capacité de sélectivité, cette membrane (30) permet un plus grand débit d'hydrogène purifié. Les trous (60) ou autres défaults de la membrane (30) peuvent être réparés grâce à l'ajout d'un métal d'étanchéité.
