A process for purifying a gas stream containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide consisting of one or more catalysed reactions for the selective removal of carbon monoxide from the gas stream wherein a controlled amount of liquid water is introduced into the gas stream prior to some of the catalysed reactions so as to lower the temperature of the gas stream to a predetermined value at which preferential removal of carbon monoxide takes place in the associated catalysed reaction. The catalysed reactions may be selective oxidation, selective methanation or combination thereof. The process of the invention may be operated in combination with a water-gas shift reaction for the reduction of carbon monoxide in the hydrogen-containing gas stream.
L'invention concerne un procédé de purification d'un courant gazeux renfermant de l'hydrogène et du monoxyde de carbone. Ce procédé consiste à provoquer une ou plusieurs réactions catalytiques destinées à éliminer de manière sélective le monoxyde de carbone dudit courant gazeux, une certaine quantité d'eau liquide étant par ailleurs introduite dans ce courant gazeux avant que ne soient provoquées certaines de ces réactions catalytiques. On fait ainsi baisser la température du courant gazeux jusqu'à une valeur prédéfinie, à laquelle l'élimination sélective de monoxyde de carbone se déroule, dans la réaction catalytique associée. Ces réactions catalytiques peuvent consister en une oxydation ou une méthanation sélectives, ou en une combinaison de celles-ci. Le procédé de cette invention peut en outre être associé à une réaction de conversion catalytique, destinée à réduire la concentration de monoxyde de carbone dans le courant gazeux renfermant de l'hydrogène.
