ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided an arrangement wherein air, which is to be mixed with a hydrocarbon fuel, is preheated. The hydrocarbon fuel is vaporized and is then mixed with the preheated air. Thereafter, the mixture is ignited and partial oxidation is permitted. Further improvement is obtained by mixing a part of the product gas, which is obtained, with the preheated air which is being fed into the hydrogen generator. Alternative to the product gas, some of the lean engine exhaust gas may be mixed with the preheated air to improve the product yield.
