A process for producing hydrogen storage metal alloys having a body-centred cubic structure-type main phase enabling the adsorption and desorption of hydrogen is provided which comprises the steps of: (1) melting a starting alloy brought to a predetermined element ratio to form a uniform heat (melting step), (2) keeping the homogenized alloy heat at a temperature within a range just below the melting point of the alloy for a predetermined time (heat treatment), and (3) rapidly cooling the alloy after the heat treatment (quenching step).

L'invention concerne un alliage de stockage d'hydrogène comprenant, en tant que phase principale, une structure réticulée centrale capable de stocker et de dégager de l'hydrogène, et qui se caractérise en ce qu'il présente une composition représentée par la formule empirique générale Ti(100-a-0,4b)Cr(a-0,6b)Mb, 20 </= a(at%) </= 80 ; 0 </= b(at%) </= 10 lorsque M représente un élément V, et 0 </= b(at%) < 5 lorsque M représente au moins un élément choisi parmi Mo et W. L'invention porte également sur un procédé de préparation d'un alliage de stockage d'hydrogène comprenant, comme phase principale, une structure réticulée centrale capable de stocker et de dégager de l'hydrogène, qui se caractérise en ce qu'il consiste en une phase de fusion dans laquelle un alliage présentant un rapport atomique prédéterminé est fondu et homogénéisé, en une phase de traitement thermique dans laquelle l'alliage homogène résultant est maintenu à une température se trouvant dans une zone juste inférieure au point de fusion de l'alliage, pendant une période prédéterminée, et en une phase de trempe dans laquelle l'alliage ayant subi le traitement thermique susmentionné est refroidi rapidement.
