3909 HYDROGENATION OF HIGH BOILING HYDROCARBONS Abstract of the Disclosure In a hydrogenation operation employing at least two catalytic ebullated hydrogenation zones in series, a recycle is recovered from the hydrogenated product, at least 25% by volume of the recycle boiling above 950°F. The recycle is contacted with an adsorbent, such as calcined coke, to remove coke precursors and is introduced into at least the last of the two zones. Higher conversion levels can be achieved by effecting recycle in such manner.
