Ketones or aldehydes containing one or more carbon-carbon double bonds and a carbonyl group conjugated with at least one double bond are hydro- lyzed by the action of heat and pressure in the presence of water by a batch or continuous process. The ketone or aldehyde cleaves at the double bond conjugated with the carbonyl group to produce addi- tional carbonyl-containing compounds.
