ABSTRACT A hydroxymethyl-dihalo-dialkylphenol is synthesized by contacting a halomethyl-dihalo- dialkylphenol with a substantial excess of water in a water-miscible organic solvent at a temperature of less than 55°C. The obtained product can be used to form epoxy resins useful as electrical components.
