The present invention provides a process for preparing atorvastatin hemi- calcium from an atorvastatin ester derivative with calcium hydroxide. The process is conveniently incorporated into a process for preparing atorvastatin hemi-calcium from an acetonide protected, ester protected .beta.,.delta.- dihydroxy heptanoic acid precursor compound by a first acid hydrolysis step followed by base hydrolysis with calcium hydroxide. The latter process may be performed as a one-pot process.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'hemi-calcium d'atorvastatine à partir d'un dérivé d'ester d'atorvastatine au moyen d'hydroxyde de calcium. Le procédé est compris de manière pratique dans un procédé de préparation d'hemi-calcium d'atorvastatine à partir d'un acétonide protégé, d'un composé précurseur d'acide .beta.,.delta.-dihydroxy heptanoïque d'ester protégé par une première étape d'hydrolyse acide suivie d'une hydrolyse basique au moyen d'hydroxyde de calcium. Ce procédé peut être effectué comme un procédé en récipient unique.
