ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is provided for the recovery of copper oxide or copper hydroxide from an aqueous ammoniacal liquor containing copper in solution. The process comprises carrying out hydroly- sis of said soluble copper while controlling temperature, the concentration of free ammonia and the concentration of ammonium salt. The copper oxide or copper hydroxide precipitate formed by the hydrolysis is then recovered.
