ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mining apparatus of hydraulic-mechanical type having a nozzle assembly for providing a narrow cut in the wall of the mining chamber, whereupon a dislodging wedge releases the undercut layer. The nozzle assembly is housed inside the respective wedge and is arranged to undercut the mineral such that the jet-produced cut in a vertical wall reaches beyond the width of the respective dislodging wedge. The invention results in reduced power required for dislodge- ment of the mineral.
