HYDROPHILIC CREAMS FOR THE DELIVERY OF THERAPEUTIC AGENTS Abstract of the Invention A viscous hydrophilic cream has been developed for the delivery of therapuetic agents to open wounds or mucous membranes. The hydrophilic cream that contains a purified seed glactomannan thickening agent is effective at delivering debriding enzymes to necrotic tissue and at maintaining the debriding enzymes on the wound site. Preferably, the seed galactomannan thickening agent is guaran having low protein and endotoxin levels. Preferably the debriding enzymes are a mixture of ananain and comosain, two pineapple stem-derived cationic cysteine proteases, that are effective in the debridement of necrotic tissue when delivered to burn eschar using the galactomannan thickened hydrophilic cream.
