ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hydrophobic polyelectrolyte copolymer which is useful in the removal of color in paper mill waste water. The copolymer preferably comprises diallyldimethylammonium chloride and a hydrophobic monomer selected from the group consisting of quaternized dimethylaminoethylacrylates and quaternized dimethylaminoethylmethacrylates.
