A hydrophobing agent consists according to the invention of resin acid and/or fatty acid emulsified/ dispersed in an aqueous phase of water, a polyaluminium salt dissolved in the water and preferably also a cationic organic compound. According to the invention, the hydrophobing agent is prepared by finely dispersing the resin acid and/or fatty acid in the aqueous phase in the presence of the polyaluminium salt and preferably also the cationic organic compound. The invention also relates to the use of the hydrophobing agent for stock hydrophobation of cellulosic fibres in papermaking.
