HYDROSTATIC BEARING FOR PUMPS AND THE LIKE ABSTRACT: A centrifugal pump having a shaft supported by a hydrostatic bearing (26) to which energizing fluid is supplied by the pump itself. Upon failure of the energizing fluid supply, an auxiliary source supplies (54) the energizing fluid. A one way valve (44) oper- ates in response to fluid pressure to permit the energiz- ing fluid, either from the pump or the auxiliary supply.
