ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved device for lifting liquids up a pipe, particularly a long pipe, in which the weight of the column being lifted is used as part of the force driving one part of the cycle of the pump lifting the liquid. In one example the pump is driven in part of its cycle by a column of a second working liquid, compressed at the surface in a pulsed cycle. In the other part of the two-step cycle, the weight of the produced column is applied into the pump linkage to move the working liquid column in reverse direction and thereby stoke the pump. This cycle continues indefinitely, and the energy supplied is independent of depth, which is a major improvement over existing designs. The device will work equally-well with flexible pipe in non-vertical situations.
