HYDROSULFITE PREPARATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Aluminum metal is activated with hydrochloric acid and then reacted with an aqueous solution of sulfur dioxide to produce an alu- minum hydrosulfite (dithionite) liquor useful for bleaching materials such as clay. The aluminum hydrosulfite can be converted to a sodium hydrosulfite liquor by precipitating aluminum with a sodium base.
