A sulfonyl aromatic or heteroaromatic ring hydroxamic acid compound that inter alia inhibits matrix metalloprotease activity is disclosed as are a treatment process that comprises administering a contemplated sulfonyl aromatic or heteroaromatic ring hydroxamic acid compound in an MMP enzyme-inhibiting effective amount to a host having a condition associated with pathological matrix metalloprotease activity. A contemplated compound corresponds in structure to formula (a) wherein W and the R groups are defined elsewhere.
L'invention concerne un composé sulfonyle d'acide hydroxamique à cycle aromatique ou hétéroaromatique qui inhibe notamment une activité de métalloprotéase matricielle. Elle concerne également un procédé de traitement qui consiste à administrer ledit composé, à raison d'une quantité efficace destinée à inhiber l'activité d'un enzyme MMP, à un hôte présentant un état associé à une activité pathologique de métalloprotéase matricielle. La structure d'un tel composé correspond à la formule (a), dans laquelle W et les groupes R sont définis ailleurs.
