PRECIS L'invention concerne une composition tinctoriale pour fibres kératiniques humaines, et en particulier pour cheveux, contenant dans un milieu cosmétiquement acceptable au moins une 2-hydroxy 1,4-naphtoquinone répondant à la formule générale: (I) Image dans laquelle R1 désigne un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe- ment hydroxyle, alcoxy, nitro, un atome d'halogène, un groupement alkyle ou acyle, R2, R3, R4, R5 désignent indépen- damment l'un de l'autre un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe ment hydroxyle, alcoxy, alkyle ou acyle, l'un au moins des substituants R1 à R5 étant différent de hydrogène, sous réserve que lorsque R1, R3 et R4 désignent un atome d'hydro- gène, R2 et R5 ne peuvent désigner simultanément un groupement hydroxyle. Les colorants de formule (I) présentent une forte puissance tinctoriale, une faible sensibilité à l'oxydation, une faible sensibilité aux variations de pH en particulier au niveau des colorations rouges et permettent d'obtenir une très large gamme de coloration.
