A hydroxypropylated 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine of formula (I), wherein R1 is a C1-4 alkyl, (beta)-hydroxyethyl, (beta)-hydroxypropyl or (gamma)-hydroxypropyl radical; R2 and R3 independently represent a (beta)-hydroxyethyl, (beta)-hydroxypropyl, (gamma)-hydroxypropyl or ?g(b,g)-dihydroxypropyl radical, with the proviso that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is a (gamma)-hydroxypropyl radical, while the other two are not both a (beta)-hydroxyethyl radical; and cosmetically acceptable salts thereof. This compound may be used for directly dyeing hair to give blue through purplish blue shades which are wash-fast, light-fast, weatherproof and sweat resistant.
2-Nitro-p-phénylènediamine hydroxypropylée ayant pour formule (1), dans laquelle: R1 représente un radical alkyle en C1-C4, .beta.-hydroxyéthyle, .beta.-hydroxypropyle ou .gamma.-hydroxypropyle; R2 et R3, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, représentent un radical .beta.-hydroxyéthyle, .beta.-hydroxypropyle, .gamma.-hydroxypropyle, ou .beta.,.gamma.-dihydroxypropyle, sous réserve que l'un au moins des radi- caux R1, R2 ou R3 représente un radical .gamma.-hydroxypropyle et que les deux autres ne puissent désigner simultanément un radical .beta.-hydroxyéthyle, et sels cosmétiquement acceptables de ce composé. Application en teinture directe des cheveux pour l'obtention de nuances bleu à bleu violet solides au lavage, à la lumière, aux intempéries et à la transpiration.
