ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The hyperpigmentation, or tanning, of skin can be carried out by typically applying thereto one or more retinoid-like compounds over a period of weeks. The affect is achieved by applying an effective amount of at least one compound of formula I Image (I) wherein each of R1 through R6 is independently H or a C1-3 alkyl group. The compound will typically be present in a composition in an amount of about 0.01% to about 0.1 wt%.
