Liquid aqueous bleaching compositions are disclosed which consist of an alkali metal hypochlorite, an alkali metal salt of silicate, a strong source of alkalinity and optionally an alkali metal salt of carbonate. A method of treating fabrics with said compositions is also disclosed.
