Use of ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or one or more of their pharmaceutically acceptable salt or salts for the treatment (including cosmetic treatment) of pruritus (itching) in animals, including human beings, by topical administration is disclosed. Also described are pharmaceutical compositions having anti-pruritic activity comprising ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or their salt or salts as an anti-pruritic agent or agents, preferably the only anti-pruritic agent or agents. The compositions may also comprise a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier, a thickening agent, a pH adjusting agent, a preservative agent, and a humectant. Use of ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or their salt or salts in the preparation of a medicament for treating pruritus and use of the above compositions to treat pruritus in animals, including human beings, is also claimed. Preferably, if the pruritus treated according to the invention has been induced by irritation with UV-B radiation, the anti-pruritic agent is other than solely ibuprofen.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation d'ibuprofène, de flurbiprofène et/ou d'un ou de plusieurs sels pharmaceutiquement acceptables de ces derniers pour le traitement (dont le traitement cosmétique) du prurit (des démangeaisons) chez l'animal, y compris l'homme, par administration locale. L'invention porte également sur des compositions pharmaceutiques présentant une activité antiprurigineuse, contenant l'ibuprofène, le flurbiprofène et/ou un ou plusieurs sels de ces derniers comme agent(s) antiprurigineux. Lesdites compositions peuvent également contenir un diluant ou un excipient pharmaceutiquement acceptables, un épaississant, un rajusteur du pH, un conservateur et un humidifiant. L'invention se rapporte également à l'utilisation d'ibuprofène, de flurbiprofène et/ou d'un ou de plusieurs sels de ces derniers dans la préparation d'un médicament destiné au traitement du prurit, ainsi qu'à l'utilisation desdites compositions pour le traitement du prurit chez l'animal, y compris l'homme. Si le prurit à traiter a été induit par des rayons UV-B, l'agent antiprurigineux ne doit pas, de préférence, être constitué uniquement d'ibuprofène.
