A coupling device for releasably securing a tool to a drive shaft of a drive unit includes a first part fixedly attached to the drive shaft, a second part fixedly attached to the tool, and a locking sleeve. Retraction of the locking sleeve permits insertion of the second part into the first part and extension of the sleeve forces a plurality of balls into a plurality of corresponding ball seats. Displacement of the balls out of the ball seats is inhibited by a frictional engagement between the first part and the sleeve, facilitated by an O-ring.
