ABSTRACT An ice breaking apparatus for breaking ice on a surface of road or sidewalks, is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a frame in which are located a plurality of hammers rigidly attached on a shaft driven into rotation by an AC electrical motor. The ice breaks upon impact of the hammers with the surface. The hammers are made of steel and have a global weight distribution axis coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The frame is manoeuvrable by an handle having a power switch for controlling said motor.
