An ice scraper blade assembly is used with a scraper for resurfacing a sheet of ice. The assembly includes a metal blade carrier beam of uniform, massive cross section. On its leading side, the beam has base and top surfaces meeting at an acute angle at a leading edge of the beam. A blade receiving relief in the top surface at the leading edge seats a blade in the form of an elongate plate with a bevelled scraping edge. The blade is engageable in the relief with the scraping edge projecting beyond the leading edge of the beam. A clamping bar extends along and is bolted to the beam and engages the top surface of the blade to clamp the blade into the relief. The currently preferred beam is cast iron. A beam of this configuration is not subject to significant thermal warping or bending, so that complete assembling and final adjustment of the blade assembly before shipping is not required. Instead, the beam may be a quasi-permanent part of the scraper and blades can be replaced in the field. This limits shipping and handling to the smaller, much lighter weight blades rather than the complete assembly.
